“My daddy started this store in 1930. We moved to 104th in 1954 and were there until getting pushed out in 2012. But we’re keeping alive the family business. In this store, we deal in hope. We keep alive our traditions and our roots. El Barrio, like the rest of New York, is changing. Now they’re tryna push us all out. Thankfully, God gave me the strength to keep on moving, the vision to know where I’m going and a people that support me. They wana turn my old store into a 7eleven? Good luck. I can’t predict the future, but something tells me, they’re not gonna make it” - Jorge Vargas
